Why Did Moana’s Tribe Stop Sailing?

Sailing is an ancient practice, used for thousands of years by people to explore, trade, and travel across bodies of water in order to get from one place to another, this is no different for Moana’s tribe in Disney’s 2016 animated film, Moana.

In this article, we will be exploring why Moana’s tribe stopped voyaging after Maui stole Te Fiti’s heart and caused the world to become shrouded in darkness, and what impact it had on their sailing practices afterwards.

Pre-Darkness: Sailing Conditions

Before the darkness descended upon the world, sailing was a much different experience, conditions were generally calm and predictable which made it much easier for captains to navigate their vessels safely between islands or continents without fear of a storm or other unexpected event disrupting their voyage.

The tools used by sailors were relatively simple such as compasses and sextants which were used to measure distances accurately while out at sea, while vessels ranged from small canoes to larger ships made using wood or metal depending on availability and cost – although usually crafted with great skill and attention to detail by experienced shipwrights who had been building boats for years before they ever set sail themselves!

As for Moana’s tribe specifically, they had their own unique customs which determined who could sail when (generally only when permitted by tribal elders) as well as where they could go (typically only near islands close by).

The Darkening: Causes and Effects

Maui stole Te Fiti’s heart which unleashed a mysterious force known as ‘the darkness’ that covered large areas of water making them almost impossible to traverse safely due to powerful winds, rough waters, fierce storms and other dangerous phenomena that suddenly appeared out of nowhere – all making it too risky for captains to take ships out into these areas without risking sinking or worse!

This sudden change in conditions meant that many ships stopped returning home which put a halt on long-distance voyages because no one wanted their vessel getting lost among the waves never to be seen again, this greatly impacted maritime trade as captains began avoiding these areas entirely due to fear of losing their ship or crew members being hurt during a storm or other dangerous event at sea – resulting in a decrease in trade between distant ports until eventually it came to a standstill altogether!

Post-Darkness: A Change in Sailing Practices

As a result of these changes, Moana’s tribe had no choice but to adjust their sailing practices accordingly, instead of travelling far away from Motonui like they used too they decided it would be safer if they stayed close by instead – limiting themselves only venturing out around nearby islands where conditions were still relatively safe enough for them not have worry about being lost at sea or getting caught up in any unexpected storms!

This meant that long distance voyages became increasingly rare until eventually there was no longer any point continuing them altogether since all necessary resources could now be found close enough so there was no need go looking elsewhere anymore – so instead her ancestors chose stay hidden away amongst Motonui until everything returned back its original state (or so they thought!).

Conclusion

In conclusion, when Maui stole Te Fiti’s heart he unleashed ‘the darkness’ upon the world which had an immediate impact on sailors everywhere, suddenly large areas of water became almost impossible traverse due strong winds and rough seas making it too risky for captains take ships out into those areas without putting them (and their crew) danger!

To protect themselves from these dangers Moana’s tribe decided stay put on Motonui instead venturing far away like they used too – thus bringing an end long distance voyages until eventually there was no longer any point continuing them altogether since all necessary resources could now be found close enough so there was no need go looking elsewhere anymore!
